Tips from our Head Service Technician

The spa that you purchased from Bachmann Pools & Spas should give you years of enjoyment. Regular maintenance goes a long way in keeping your spa in tip-top conditions. Our service team is dedicated to customer satisfaction.

Spring Check Up
Spring is a good time to do a routine check-up and get your spa in peak condition.

Replenish the water.
When you refill your spa, allow water to run through the hose onto lawn or flower beds for 3-5 minutes to clear before running it into the spa.

Always feed the hose into the filter compartment when filling your spa. This will reduce air bubbles in the heater line which can cause your heater to trip off when you're trying to restart it after refilling.

Check Your Filters
Change filters every two to three years for superior water quality and lower chemical use. If your filters are cracking or if the element is shedding, replace now.

Clean the Skirt
Moss or mildew on your Classic skirt? Avoid any abrasive cleaners like CometTM. Use Simple Green™, 409™, or Alkalinity Plus™, a non-abrasive scrub sponge or brush and elbow grease.

Mildew, moss or stains on your wood skirt? Use a 1 to 1 solution of chlorine bleach and water. Using a nylon bristle scrub brush, apply the solution to one spot on the wood and gently massage the brush around to clean. Work your way around the entire spa. Rinse the wood thoroughly to neutralize the bleach.

Dark, stained wood? Use Kleen n' Brite™. when the wood is thoroughly dry, finish with a wood protector. Apply a coat of Seal n' Oil™. Seal n' Oil is fast drying, has antifungal agents and UV inhibitors, and it forms a tough water-repellent weather barrier. (Do not use Thompson's™ and Varathane™ on your wood skirt, please!)

Caring for Your Spa Cover

How's your cover? Take time to do a field cover report ...

Hinges
Torn? A torn hinge can let heat escape if the tear goes beyond the gasket seals (about 2 inches in from the outside edge). If the tears are over six inches long, you're ready for a new cover. Have a torn hinge under six inches long restitched.

Straps
Missing? Broken? Don't sacrifice the safety aspect of your cover. Call me and tell me the color of your cover and how the locks attach to your spa.

Cover Shield cover careCover Shield Cleans, shines and protects the vinyl to keep it looking beautiful for the life of the spa cover.
Vinyl
Dirty? Brittle? Dry? Dirty, dry, brittle vinyl will crack and tear easily, affecting safety, heat retention and cleanliness of the water. Torn vinyl cannot be repaired easily; if it's dry and brittle, it can't be repaired. Vinyl preservations is critical.Pick up a bottle of Cover Shield to keep your cover clean and conditioned.

Check Equipment Bay for Rodents

If you see signs of infestation, call us to request a copy of our "Rodent Ridding Fact Sheet." Besides being messy and smelly, rodent droppings can be a health hazard. Use rubber gloves and a mask when cleaning badly contaminated equipment bays. When you've removed the debris, you can gently rinse the compartment floor. Unplug the spa. Do not spray water directly on the jet pump, circulation pump, light fixture or electrical control panel. Once clean, inspect the compartment for chewed wiring or plumbing and call for service, if necessary.

Reminder: Because of health concerns, our service technicians cannot service rodent infested spas. Spas must be free of pests and nest free.

What About The Water?
If you're not absolutely sure how to maintain your spa or pool, reread your manual, call your nearest store, or come in for an in-person demonstration. To insure properly-maintained water, Bachmann Pools and Spas offers FREE water testing to all customers in our Computerized Water Analysis Lab. If you've moved and have a new water source, bring a water sample to any of our stores for testing. Your new water may require a change in the start-up formula. Always make sure alkalinity and pH levels are adequate and that you have enough free chlorine, but don't over-chlorinate. Excessive chlorine can damage your spa or pool. If the cover is dry and blistered on the underside or if your tile line is etched and faded, you may be over-chlorinating.

Reminder: Use only sodium dichlor formula in your spa. Another, cheaper chlorine (usually calcium hypochlorite) may tempt you at hardware and discount stores. Don't use it -- it will damage your spa and void the warranty. Always check the label.
